Major Goal of the Directorate

Develop and/or adapt crop protection technologies to contribute the country's overall growth and development.

Major Areas of Focus

1. Management and/or control of major crop pests.
2. Crop pest status survey and/or assessment in Oromia
3. Assessment of crop loss resulting from major pests
4. Efficacy tests or pesticide verifications

Objectives of the Directorate

1. to assess the condition of pests and the dynamics of pests over seasons and years
2. to quantify crop losses brought on by various pests
3. to develop and/or adapt crop protection technologies to boost agricultural productivity and production
4. to ensure pest free entry of exotic crop genetic materials through study in the quarantine sites
5. to promote new crop protection methods in collaboration with extension research
6. to provide training and crop protection knowledge to various stakeholders
