Establishment
Sinana Agriculture Research Center is one of the centers working under Oromia Agricultural Research Institute. It is located in the Bale zone of Oromia Regional State, 463km away from Finfine and 33 km away from Robe town. Its geographic location is 070N07’N latitude and 40010’E longitude. The center was established in May 1896 by the agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and the European Economic Commission (EEC) to represent the highlands of the southeastern agro-ecologies of the country.
The elevation of the center is 2400 m a.s.l. with topography of gentile slope to plain. Accordingly, there are two distinct seasons favorable for crop production, namely, the Genna season usually extends from March/April to July/August, while the Bona season extends from August/September to December/January with annual rainfall of 860mm. The average annual maximum temperature is 210C and the minimum is 9oC.
So far, Sinana is doing research in three different Zones under oromia regional states. These are Bale zone at Sinana, Goba, Agarfa, Dinsho, Gasera, Goro, Dellomena, Harana Buluk, and Barbere districts, East Bale at Gololcha, Ginir districts, and West Arsi Zone at Adaba and Dodola districts.
