IQQO and Cotti Coffee (Ranked 3rd Global Coffee Brand) International Limited had a fruitful discussion to establish a strategic collaboration to work together on enhancing Coffee production using Plant Tissue Culture.

IQQO Director General, Mr Teshome Bogale, and Cotti Coffee delegates, Mr James and Mr Wang, today conducted discussions on establishing a partnership to strengthen Ethiopia’s coffee sector, particularly Oromia´s Coffee sector, by aligning IQQO's strategy with Cotti Coffee's experience in Coffee Production using Biotechnological tools (tissue culture method).

The discussion focuses on ways to improve coffee production and productivity, quality, and sustainability, while ensuring tangible benefits for smallholder farmers in Oromia and on enhancing Ethiopia’s competitiveness in global coffee markets. It represents a shared vision, a commitment to collaboration, and a belief that, by working together, we can reflect our mutual trust, complementary strengths, and our determination to apply knowledge to meaningful impact.

“This discussion is about creating impact, not simply agreements behind closed doors,” said Mr Teshome Bogale, Director General, IQQO. As a public research institution, IQQO’s mandate is to generate solutions that serve farmers and the wider public.

Engaging openly with the private sector helps ensure our research responds to real market needs while remaining farmer-centred.

Cotti Coffee brings practical experience in coffee processing, quality differentiation, traceability, and export market requirements. The company emphasized the importance of collaboration rooted in transparency and shared value. The company will start large-scale coffee production across Oromia for its value-added production and processing, and will benefit local coffee producers as well. Cotti Coffee chain emphasises affordable, high-quality 100% Arabica Coffee and is involved in the trade and supply of coffee, snacks, and related products globally.

”Research and markets must speak to each other more clearly,” said Mr James, Cotti Coffee Delegate, Cotti Coffee. By working openly with IQQO, they aim to support practical innovations that improve Coffee production and quality, modernise Coffee production, and strengthen the entire coffee value chain. He also stated Cotti Coffee has ample experience using technology in the coffee industry, with developed advanced research from coffee beans to cup.

This discussion marks and forms part of a broader effort to promote inclusive, transparent public–private partnership in Ethiopia’s coffee sector.
